Food simply tastes better in Jersey. Perhaps it's something to do with the freshness and quality of the seafood, or the Island's farming heritage, or its close proximity to Europe. Whatever the reason, there's a uniform commitment right across the Island to serving good food, whether a plain and simple beach cafe or a Michelin star restaurant.
Jersey has a varied and cosmopolitan population. France only being 14 miles away has a strong influence as do the flavours of the Mediterranean and Portugal and Jersey continues to combine the best of traditional foods with a flair and invention to rival anywhere in the world.
Local seafood features strongly with the mornings catch being available each morning from the Beresford Fish Market in St Helier and many rate lobsters caught in the waters around Jersey as the finest available. Other locally grown produce, including the famous Jersey Royal potatoes, are available from the ornate Central Market, where you can mingle with chefs on their daily rounds. In fact the variety, quality and freshness of local produce gives Jersey a bit of an unfair advantage.
The widespread use of fresh local produce, interesting and varied menus together with outstanding value all provide a dining experience to remember - whether it be in a simple beach café, a street brassiere, a traditional country pub, or a chance to take pleasure in Michelin star dining.
